There are 20 Palestinian radio stations, 19 newspapers and 33 TV stations, according to the Palestinian Ministry of Information.
Muhammad Dahody, director-general of Palestine TV, says his phone began ringing after Hamas spokesman Sami Abu Zuhri accused the station of fomenting civil war in an interview May 22 with the Qatar-based Arabic satellite network Al-Jazeera.
Dahody says he received 20 calls a day from Hamas militants threatening to dismember him if he didn’t change the station’s allegedly biased reporting. […] Four of Arabeed’s 32 staff members quit after receiving threats by phone or e-mail, he says. As many as 70 death threats a day filled Arabeed’s own voice mail.
All these brave leaders who (like Edward Saïd) are ready to fight to the last Palestinian, but not a trace of personal courage. As a friend commented to me: didn’t you notice their suits? As soon as they took over the government, they started wearing suits. […] from the perspective of a warrior concerned with honor, playing the victim is the most craven of options, and when the Palestinians adopted (or were forced by their Arab brethren to adopt) the role of victim, they went into a form of honor-shame pathology.
